UN DESPERTAR / AN AWAKENING
A Cathartic Revelation of American Identities
World Premiere
(MINNEAPOLIS; May 14, 2021) After a year of isolation and intense self-reflection due to the pandemic, singer and actor Rodolfo Nieto emerges with nine original songs that express universal experiences from an American-Latinx perspective. In collaboration with OOPS MN, and accompanied by Victoria Vargas, Jared Miller, and Mauricio Sanchez, these songs will be performed and recorded at the Ritz Theater in Northeast Minneapolis. They will premiere to the public on Saturday, June 12, at 7pm CT on Rodolfo’s YouTube Channel.
Drawing inspiration from classical and popular music, Rodolfo’s style ranges from Western Art Song to Musical Theater to Mexican Folk Music. All songs contain original lyrics written in both Spanish and English, and reflect personal experiences from Rodolfo and Victoria. The themes express sentiments about nature, identity, community, prejudice, and loss.
“The inspiration for these songs came from the need to cope with the circumstances around me, and through that came a deep introspection into my own identity. As a mixed-race, Latinx man, I continue to struggle with my own identity in culture, language, community, and self-perception in our country. Writing these songs and lyrics has opened up a connection to a deeper sense of myself that I was missing. This process also has given me a new freedom of expression, enabling a powerful, genuine voice in my artistic collaborations,” stated Rodolfo.
“It is my hope that, regardless of language, everyone who hears these songs will discover an experience or sentiment to which they can connect.”
This concert will be available for free to the public beginning on June 12 at 7pm on Rodolfo Nieto’s YouTube Channel.
About Rodolfo Nieto
Rodolfo is a singer, actor, composer, and lyricist residing in Minneapolis, MN. He performs regularly in the Twin Cities in Musical Theater and Opera, where he has performed with Theater Latté Da, Park Square Theatre, Minnesota Opera, Artistry, History Theatre, Lyric Arts, and Mixed Blood Theatre, to name a few. Other work includes bilingual concerts of Mexican and Latin American Music, of which the concert “Viva México” can be viewed on his YouTube channel. Rodolfo’s recent composition, “The Minnesota Beer Song,” has already reached 16k views on YouTube and is still growing.

Una Revelación Catártica de Identidades Americanas

(MINNEAPOLIS: 14 de Mayo de 2021) Después de un año de aislamiento e introspección profunda debido a la pandemia, el cantante y actor Rodolfo Nieto emerge con nueve canciones originales que expresan experiencias universales por un perspectivo American-Latinx. En colaboración con OOPS MN, y acompañado de Victoria Vargas, Jared Miller, y Mauricio Sanchez, estas canciones serán realizadas y grabadas al Ritz Theater en Northeast Minneapolis. Serán presentadas al público el Sábado, 12 de Junio, a las 7pm CT al Canal de YouTube de Rodolfo Nieto.
La música de Rodolfo es inspirada por la música clásica europea y la música popular de los Estados Unidos y de México. Todas las canciones contienen letras originales escritas en español e inglés, y reflejan las experiencias de Victoria y Rodolfo. Las temas hablan de la naturaleza, la identidad, la comunidad, el perjuicio, y la pérdida.
“La creación de estas canciones resultaron de la necesidad de lidiar con las circunstancias sobre la pandemia. Por eso comencé a inquirir mi identidad. Como un hombre de raza mezclada, yo lidio con mi identidad en como pertenece a la lengua, la cultura, la comunidad, y mi autopercepción en los Estados Unidos. Al escribir estas canciones y letras yo me he conectado a una parte más honda en mí, y he descubierto una nueva herramienta para la colaboración y liberación de mi voz artística,” dice Rodolfo.
“Deseo que cada persona pueda conectarse a algunos sentimientos en estas canciones sin importar la lengua.”

Rodolfo es un actor y cantautor residente de Minneapolis, MN. Él actúa frecuentemente con los teatros de ópera y de teatro musical, como Theater Latté Da, Park Square Theatre, Minnesota Opera, Artistry, History Theatre, Lyric Arts, y Mixed Blood Theatre. Además, él ha presentado conciertos bilingües de música Mexicana y Latinoamericana, de los cuales la presentación “Viva México” está disponible en su canal de YouTube.
